Garland Bastin served as the NAILE General Superintendent for 27 years, from the show's founding until his death in 2000. He was an individual with the highest integrity who truly loved young people. He believed that exhibitors of animals at livestock shows should at all times conduct themselves with honesty and good sportsmanship. Their behavior in this competitive environment should reflect the highest standards of honor and dignity. The NAILE Executive Committee is proud to offer a $500 scholarship in memory of this extraordinary man.

Scholarship Rules

To be eligible:

• Entrant must be a high school senior during the current school year.
  
• Entrant must exhibit at least one animal in the NAILE Junior Dairy Show in the year that person applies for the award.
  
• Entrant must be available for the award presentation during the NAILE Junior Dairy Banquet.

The application will be judged by a panel of livestock industry professionals. The judges' decision is final.

The application will be judged on the following basis:

35% -- Academic and achievements
30% -- Involvement with dairy cattle
35% -- Essay

Payment of the scholarship will be made upon proof of acceptance for enrollment in a college or other institute of higher learning. Payment will be made directly to the recipient. The scholarship is only available for payment within a 24 month period after it has been presented.

Application Process

• Complete the application form and essay. The essay and all attachments must be typewritten or word processed.
  
• Submit an official high school transcript.
  
• Submit a letter of recommendation from one of the following:
  4-H Agent
  FFA Advisor or other high school teacher

Return this form along with the above mentioned requirements to the NAILE office (contact information listed below). All applications must be postmarked no later than September 30, 2006.
